Want To Keep Your Air Conditionng System In Great Shape? Follow These Pointers
If you are lucky enough to have a central air conditioning unit for your home, you will want to make sure that you are doing everything you can in order to maintain it well. The better you care for the unit, the longer it is going to last without causing you any problems. Some of the things that you will want to do include:
Keep The Debris Off Of The Unit
You want to make sure that you are not allowing leaves, twigs, or anything else lay around on top of your central air conditioning unit. Therefore, every couple of days, you will want to go outside and sweep off the top and sides of the unit, as well as all around the base. Then, every month or so, you will want to remove the top and clean out any debris that had made it inside. First, turn off the power by flipping the breaker into the off position. You can then use a screwdriver to open the lid. Once it is open, you can scoop or spray out any debris that found its way into the unit. You could also use a wet and dry vacuum for this purpose.
Keep The Fins Cleaned Off
You can use a garden hose or a spray can of a commercial cleaner meant for air conditioners. Make sure that you are spraying the fins from the inside of the machine out, so that the debris will land on the ground. If you spray it from the outside in, you are just creating more of a mess for yourself that you will have to clean from the inside.
Keep The Fins Straight
You need to make sure that the fins on the central air conditioning unit are kept nice and straight. Even though it is common for them to bend from time to time, you need to use a flat head screwdriver or a butter knife to push them back out into the proper position. By ensuring that the fins are kept in the proper position, you will never have to worry about any restrictions with the air flow.
Keep An Eye On The Level Of Noise
Most central air conditioning units will make a certain level of noise throughout the day while they are running. While this is normal, it should be something that you get used to. Should you suddenly find that the unit is making a noise that is much louder or simply different than what you normally hear, you will need to call for air conditioning repair. The sooner you allow a professional to make any repairs or adjustments needed, the longer your unit will last in the long run.
